You first have to remove two screws(7mm)in the back of the storage compartment under the pull out cup holder. Once they are removed pull that compartment out and set it off to the passenger floor side being careful not to break your lighter plug wire. Next you pull out your cup holder and remove two screws up under where the cup holder slides in and out also 7mm. Then while cup holder is pulled out remove two screws one on each side of the cup holder which are back in a little holes Phillips head. After all 6 screws are out using a small flat head screwdriver very carefully pry loose the three tabs which hold the top of the plastic trim ring above the radio. Once the trim ring is removed there are three screws that hold the radio in remove and radio is out

DO NOT take it out until you are completely sure on what to do...i have an 02 Malibu and removed the radio on the 29th of august and now my car still doesn't run...it's going to the Chevy garage at the end of the week...I'll get an update...let me know if u figure something out!

Well I will tell you because I taken Mine out about 6 times and nothing has ever happened. Take the plastic around the ignition switch off be careful not to brake plastic, then prey the plastic away from radio then u while see the bolts to take radio out. Before you do anything like this though UNHOOK THE BATTERY

If it's a factory original, you have to undo every single solitary screw on the center console (I'm assuming it's a center shift automatic.) The biggest problem is there is a strap that attaches to the back of the unit that bolts to the back of the radio and then, like an erector set piece, has about 12 holes in the strap, one of which will have a bolt attached to the back of the under dash. If you are just trying to get the old out so you can put a new one in, I would get a metal snip and just cut the strap as its not worth the hassle of unbolting the VERY hard to get at and awkward bolts on the strap.

Remember the antenna cable will also be on the right side bottom and there is usually very little give. If there is a factory wiring harness, do everything you can to try and save it intact as it will make installing the new one a lot easier. But after the strap in the back is off, the only thing holding the radio in will be these 2 tabs on the right and left sides that need to be held in (towards the radio) so that they release from their catches. It's a big pain if you don't have these two little 'y' shaped metal tools you can buy at a PepBoys that help loosen the side catches.

1. Take out the plastic shroud around the shifter by removing the one screw under the front cup holder's plastic. It should lift right out.

2. Shift into a low gear with the emergency brake on so you don't roll forward and you can turn the car off.

3. The light and dark plastic pieces around the radio are one piece. Take out the two star-bit screws under the hatch release buttons on the darker plastic. There should be one on each side.

4. The plastic surrounding the radio should pop right out.

5. The radio is held in by one screw on the passenger side and two on the driver side.
