Amy Jo Johnson asked for the character of Kimberly to be written off so she could pursue other projects in her acting career. She did however return in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie and it was said she was to return in both Zeo and Dino Thunder but she did not, so in Zeo they used a "Dear John" letter to break off her relationship with Tommy to fully remove the character from the show and say "she's not returning", this was later confirmed in Turbo: A Power Rangers Moviewhen she says "Pink is out" meaning she is no longer the Pink Ranger and with Dino Thunder she was just too busy to return so she was never written back in. Interesting bit of fact that no one knows of is there was one scene Johnson did not get to record before leaving the show and so another uncredited voice actor came in to dub her and a body double was in the suit at the time in the episode "A Different Shade of Pink Part 1" when she says "See you later". Johnson had left the show at this point and time and the sean was accidently missed during the process of shooting to help write Johnson out of the show.

Catherine Sutherland along with Jason David Frank both asked to leave the show due to the demanding hours and as such the producers opted to replace all the original Rangers and start a new line.

Kimberly left in order to train for the Pan Global Games however the real reason behind her leaving is Amy Jo Johnson, the one that portrays her, she elected to not continue on in the role and opted to not renew her contract because she wanted to pursue other opportunities.

Amy Jo Johnson's contract was expiring and she had elected to not renew it however she had wanted out early so she had made an agreement with 1 of the Executive Producers; Shuki Levy so that her character; Kimberly would eventually be written off in the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers however Amy Jo still returned as Kimberly for Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie as a sign of good gesture since she was originally contracted for two movies.
