The longest day of the year in New Zealand is the same as for all Southern Hemisphere areas. It varies from year to year, but is usually around the 21st of December.

In 2010 the Southern Solstice takes place on the 21st of December at 23:38 UTC, which in New Zealand Daylight Saving time is 12:38 on the 22nd therefore the longest day for New Zealand for 2010 is December 22.

The length of the longest day in New Zealand depends on where in the country you are. At Cape Reinga at latitude 34d25'S the longest day will last for about 14 hours 19 minutes, at Stewart Island at latitude 47S it last for 15 hours 41 minutes.

The last day of Summer in Australia is February 28, or 29 in a leap year.

Summer is December, January, February.

Autumn is March, April, May.

Winter is June, July, August.

Spring is September, October, November.

All seasons begin on the first day of the first month in that season.

These dates do not change year by year as they do in the United States.
