Soda and Darry are different in one obvious way Soda understands Pony. Darry tries his best to push Pony boy to the right thing but does it an a way that makes Pony despise him. While soda is loving caring energetic and optimistic and knows how pony is therefore knows he should listen to his feelings analyze the problem then give a solution instead of forcing it upon him.
