Some people keep mice, rats, hamsters rabbits etc or those who like horses and can afford will rent space in a stable to keep them. More adventurous people keep lizards etc or snakes or Spiders. It is uncommon for people to have more exotic pets like Meerkats or monkeys, it is probably restricted by law as to what types of animals you can keep in what sort of conditions.
