The term capitalism was invented by Karl Marx. Most people use it today to mean free enterprise. I prefer the term freedom but I will use capitalism here.

Under Communism the government owns and controls the means of production. Under Capitalism or free enterprise the people own and control the means of production.

Under fascism the people retain ownership but the government takes over controls.

They are not really that simular. In fact, by history, communists always hated fascists, and vice versa. In theory, communism is a ideology that is actually not meant to be oppressive, just in almost every instance a country became communist it was oppressive, most commonly known is the Soviet Union or Communist China. The ideology of communism is is that all forms of production are owned by the government, and everybody works to their abilities and take only to their needs. Fascism is when the government takes and uses whatever they need without worrying on the welfare of the people they take it from too much. An example is Fascist Italy. Imagine this; in communism, you have two cows. The government takes the cows and puts them in a barn with everybody else's cows, and you take whatever milk you need from those cows. In fascism, the government shoots you, then take the cows and their milk. The reason some people may associate the two is because, again, communism turned out more like fascism than it was meant to be.

They are completely different. Communism is a fully democratic system with no classes or government, where goods and services are produced to meet human need. A Dictatorship is a political system where one person a or a small number of people exercise control and most people have little or no freedom.

Fascism is an authoritarian version of capitalism. It involves class ownership, wage labour and production for sale, but the state has a greater economic role and no political democracy is allowed.
