== == "In 1994, Bill C-212 was introduced to officially declare hockey as Canada's national sport. Opposition came from supporters of Lacrosse who wanted to recognize the traditional and cultural significance of this sport. Consequently, Bill C-212 was amended to recognize both sports. Thus, on May 12, 1994, Canada's National Sport Act (Bill C-212) became law, reading: "To recognize hockey as Canada's National Winter Sport and lacrosse as Canada's National Summer Sport". While hockey's popularity is unquestionable - especially in Canada, lacrosse is still enjoyed by Canadians and has gained popularity in the United States, England, Ireland, and Scotland." Yes, but it's not the only one.

Up until 1994, Lacrosse was the only national sport. Today The National Sports of Canada Act recognizes Lacrosse as the country's national summer sport and Ice Hockey as the national winter sport.

Canada - Correction - LACROSSE is Canada's national sport, NOT hockey. (Much like in Brasil their national sport is CAPOEIRA not soccer). What is Canada's national sports?

Lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport. Ice hockey is the official national winter sport (and also its most popular with spectators, and the one with which Canada has the most international success). Association football boasts the largest player base in the country, although very little professional and spectator attention. Both the Canadian and American football codes have strong popularity as spectator sports. Baseball has a long history in the country.
