" Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

No, it is the least worst form of government
yes democracy is the least form of government as some of the parties who are elected in the elections buy most of the votes into their favour
Yes it was. At least in the Americas. Democracy is an evolutionary concept of government and has its roots in Ancient Greece.
Criticizing the government is not a crime, and I have never seen an example (at least in modern times) of one being arrested for having an opinion on the government. So, in order for me to give anymore of a legitimate answer, you will have to provide me with an example of someone being arrested for nothing more than expressing their opinion.
There are only 3 types of governments in the United States of America. Thus being: state government, tribal government, and federal government. The federal government has 3 branches under its government. Which is Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branch. But, all of those branches are still under the federal government. Thus being said 4 governments in America is clearly false.

India's democracy is at the least, sound. India's democracy is huge and the people have the real power. The people of India have many freedoms and are happy in their democracy. It is working beautifully. Besides being stable, India is growing rapidly and is already a super-power.
ancient Egypt was ruled by a pharoah and had no democracy in modern Egypt they are ruled by a president and they have democracy or at least a little of democracy
Democracy means "rule by the people". Republic means "rule by elected officials". Since the officials in a republic are elected, it is a form of democracy. Not all democracies are republics (direct democracy is not), and not all "republics" are actually democracies ("Islamic republics", for example). The United States is a republic and representational democracy.
