It is belived to be Britains oldest landmark. However, nobody knows why it was built. Some belive it is an early clock but nobody knows for sure.
Posilble the most amazing thing about it is that the rocks came from Wales meaning the workers would have carried these vast rocks the distance of the modern M4,
not bad seeing as they are about 2 tons each.

Actually, it isn't in the classical sense. The reason is that the man who organized the original list, Herodotus, didn't know of its existence. A reason why it would be is that it's a mystery and a marvel to humanity's ingenuity.
Stonehenge was built in circa 3700 and 1600 BC. It was built by bronze age people.

Stonehenge is a wonder because it is architecturally sophisticated. No one knows how it was built. It is the only lintelled circle remaining.
It has been famous for hundreds of years, as there is nothing much like it elsewhere in England. (We do have some smaller stone circles.)
