Tolerance is caused by the pathways the drug uses, and the receptors to the drugs in the body becoming less sensitive over time due to repeated use.

∙ 2012-11-25 10:29:09Nope - most addicts start using drugs 'recreationally' - in that they just want something to give them an 'occasional buzz'. Sadly, their body becomes used to the dose - and demands more to give the user the same effect. This snowballs until the addict is absolutely dependant on stronger and stronger drugs.

True, but not all drugs have a tolerance effect.
Molly or ecstasy can have some of the same negative effects as cocaine and amphetamines. Death is a possible side effect.
No. Alcohol and most drugs affect the brain in similar ways. Drinking will prevent the brain from recovering, and the same attitude that causes the person to want to drink will maintain the addict mindset. No recovery is possible while mood altering chemicals are being used, and it is only a matter of time until the addict relapses or begins to drink alcoholically.

Drug addicts take more and more drugs because as they do more and more of any particular drug they begin building up a tolerance to it. That means they have to take more and more of the drug to get the same high. This is both what gets a person addicted in many cases, and why people end up doing more and more drugs.

However there are possibilities that one is an addict and you cannot still find out about it from his behavioral patterns. These people get intense urge for the drug, need more doses to get the same effect, they tend to spend too much on the drug they use, avoid workplace and household responsibilities, doing abnormal things like stealing to maintain the stock of drugs with them.
