Gently massage the area to loosen up the tight muscles.

Apply ice pack if it is new, or apply hot water fomentation if it is present for a few days.

If it persists, seek medical attention to get some relaxation medication to calm the pain.

Taking ibuprofen also helps to get rid off the pain on your neck.

Stiff necks typically occurs when the bodies immune system is weak or has been weakened. The metabolic debris (toxins) tend to like to congreate in these area and cause inflammation of the area, which in the neck region causes stiffness and pain when movement is attempted.

The best treatment is to use heat packs to generally warm up the area first, to help promote blood circulation and ease some of the tension

Then using a massage oil, lightly stroke from base of the neck downwards to the shoulders and surrounding areas using the fingers tips then progressing to palm. when the child is comftable, using gentle circular motions with a firm but gentle pressure the child is comftable with and easy any knots you may find with your thumb. as the muscles loosen, it is a good idea to get the child to turn their head the way they were not able as you work the muscles. finish the massage again with the same neck to shoulder in the begging

It is not advised that you massage past 15 mins, as children's neck area is much tender, and use utmost caution that you do not accidentally massage the jaguar vein. It may be a good idea to have a quick look on the internet first and get yourself familiar with the muscles of the neck and locations of the major veins and arteries.

Whatever you do for a stiff neck, you should not do anything forcefully or suddenly to attempt to break the protective muscle spasm of a stiff neck. All efforts to help yourself relieve sudden neck stiffness should be done gently, slowly and gradually.

As a general guide these home remedies should reduce the time and severity of the muscle spasms and pain that are come with a stiff neck:

  • Rest
  • Keep your neck and head in a neutral position that does not cause pain
  • Apply ice to the area for no more than 20 minutes at a time
  • Gentle light stroking massage from the base of the skull down to the top of the shoulders
  • Light use of anti-inflammatory over-the-counter meds

If after several days the neck is not improving it is wise to consult with your family doctor or a chiropractor for evaluation and additional assistance.

Take a towel and soak it with water and wring it out to where it's not quite dripping. Microwave it for a couple of minutes, maybe more, til it's as hot as you can stand. Wrap it up in a dry towel and place on your neck. When towel cools, microwave it again. Repeat until your neck no longer hurts.

Children's Tylenol or children's Advil will treat an occasional headache, it they are okay with those medications.

If they are getting regular headaches, they need to be seen by a doctor to find the cause. Headaches can be caused by sinus infections, a bad tooth, anxiety, high blood pressure, or any number of other things. Frequent headaches are often a symptom of something else going on. If it is something simple, like a sinus infection, it can be easily treated so that the headaches stop.
