The cervix is the passageway between the vagina and the uterus. The opening is generally very small, but just enough to allow menstrual blood out, and semen in.

In labor the contractions of the uterus cause the cervix to thin and dilate, so the baby can pass through the vagina and into the world.

Basically the cervix is a passage way connecting the vagina and the uterus of the females. It is the junction in which the uterus and all inside it is protected from the infections and bacteria that maybe present in the vaginal opening. This is also an important organ during birth and during menstrual period.

The cervix is a small, soft, round organ that sits at the base of the uterus. Normally about the size of quarter or smaller and closed, if you were to see it; it would be pink and have a slender slit in the center.

Its purpose during pregnancy is to stretch (it is muscle fiber, as the uterus is), stay clamped shut, until the the time of delivery.

At this time it slowly thins and opens; in order to allow the infant to lower himself through the birth canal safely.

It is located at the the lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina.

it prevents the penis from entering deep further through as it's opening is relatively more narrow than the penis and the sperms are ejaculated and pas through it, at the due of pregnancy a hormone is secreated to stimulate the cervix to widen by contractions and then the baby is delivered through it .
