Blood exits the heart through the aorta, which takes a 180 degree curve to the left. Three arteries branch off of the top of the aorta to supply the arms and upper part of the body. The aorta continues to extend inferiorly to supply smaller branches which supply the lower part of the body.

In other words, the aorta carries blood away from the heart to all parts of the body.
