This is an order, usually written by a medical practitioner, probably for someone who suffers from hypoglycemia. The orange juice will get the blood sugar level up. "Two ounces of orange juice, four times daily (qid), before meals (ac) and at bedtime (h.s. [hour of sleep/bedtime]). "

READING A PRESCRIPTION CORRECTLY YOU JUST HAVE TO MEMORIZE DIFFERENT ABBREVIATIONS USED (most come from Latin). If the doctor writes "sig:" (some DO NOT), that means "these are my directions or instructions" For pills, tabs and capsules it may say: PO (by mouth), ac (before meals), PC (after meals), QD (once a day) BID (twice a day), TID (three times a day), QID (four times a day), at or @HS (at bedtime [hour of sleep]). FOR DROPS: gtt is drop, gtts is drops, AS is left ear, AD is right ear, AU is both ears.....OS is left eye, OD is right side, OU is both eyes..........PRN is "as needed", as in 1 tab QID PRN pain. There are more, but these are the most used and all I can remember right now!
