Damage to the nervous system can be very long term. It all depends on where the damage occurs. If at the spinal cord, the muscles may not respond. If in the brain, perhaps sight will be lost. Death can occur if the brain is damaged.

If the nervous system becomes damaged it could become a major or a minor problem, depending whether it is your central or peripheral nervous system that is damaged.

  • If your peripheral nervous system is damaged, there is a good chance it isn't fatal. Damage to your peripheral nervous system means that the nerves have been cut from that area and messages cannot be received by that part of the body. There are hundreds of peripheral nerve disorders that can affect one or many nerves. They can be as extreme as carpal tunnel syndrome or as moderate as diabetic nerve problems. Symptoms of peripheral nerve disorders include: Numbness, Pain, Tingling, Muscle weakness, Touch sensitivity

When your central nervous system is damaged, it can be fatal. If your spinal cord is damaged, you can end up in a wheelchair with low risk of ever walking again, while if you damage your brain there is almost no chance of survival as it is the most important organ in your body other than your heart, consequently becoming brain-dead.

Nothing serious will happen right away but it will begin to hurt a bit. Later on, it will begin to heal. If it is really seriously damaged then the cell may not regenerate.
