While a milder form of heat related illness, heat exhaustion is still a serious condition and should be treating immediately. Failure to treat heat exhaustion will lead to heat stroke which can lead to death.

Treatment

The first thing that should be done is to get out of the heat! Seek a shady area if you are outside, but it is better to find an air conditioned building. Once you are there, rest. If you are exercising, slow your pace drastically for a few moments and then stop, and find a cool area and rest. Drink a cool, non alcoholic liquid, but do not consume large amounts as this has it's own problems. Sometimes it may be necessary to cool the skin as well. Use cool to lukewarm water. A shower, bath or even just pouring water over your head can do the trick.

Prevention

The best way to deal with heat related illnesses is to avoid them altogether! Ensure you are dressed appropriately for the weather. Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing. Proper hydration also plays an important role in heat related illnesses. If you are exercising, try to do it in the cooler hours such as the early morning or evening, and if you can't, avoid spending too much time in direct sunlight.

I collapsed in 90 degree heat after 3 hours. I felt very weird, like an other worldly feeling, but don't recall being hot or being nauseated. I did get confused and try to get in the wrong car and then I don't remember anything else until I collapsed. Has anyone had a heat experience like this? What does heat exhaustion (NOT stroke) feel like? Tanks.
