Vaginal discharge is normal for all girls. Absence of vaginal discharge may indicate a hormonal imbalance.

From the beginning of a menstrual cycle, the first discharge that may be noticed is menstrual blood. After this, depending on the length of the cycle, there may be "dry" days involving no discharge, or there may not (dry days are considered times of low fertility). Then the cervix begins to produce fluid or mucus which helps sperm to travel through into the uterus to potentially fertilize an egg. As the days pass, the mucus changes from something similar to very thin nasal discharge (or snot) to thick and sticky like egg whites. The last day of "egg white" discharge is called the Peak Day (this is the day that the woman is most fertile). After this, there are about 14 more dry days before the next cycle starts.

When a girl becomes sexually excited, she may produce more vaginal fluid, which assists with penetration. If she has a hormonal imbalance, she may not produce any vaginal fluid or cervical fluid. After menopause, the lack of hormones also causes dryness of the vagina.

If the discharge is excessive and smelly, it may be candida (a yeast infection--especially if the discharge is white and smells like fish) or bacterial vaginosis.

If you look in your panties and see white stuff in it that means you had a vaginal discharge. If you feel it coming try to put toilet paper over your vagina to keep from getting it on your panties

All people with vagina's have vaginal discharge - this is how your vagina stays clean and healthy.

Discharge helps clean out bacteria and is acidic to kill harmful bacteria too, and it keeps vaginal tissues lubricated to protect from damage. Your discharge changes throughout your menstrual cycle and you will also see more discharge when aroused as this is one of the changes your body goes through in preparation for sexual intercourse.

Watch for unusual discharge - excessive discharge, unusual texture like watery or cottage cheese, unusual colour such as green or grey, bad smell like fish or yeast, or if you have irritation - these symptoms can be a sign of vaginal infection, if you notice these see your doctor.

Yes, it's completely normal for girls to have vaginal discharge.

Every person with a vagina will have discharge because this is how the vagina stays clean and healthy. Discharge flushes out dead cells and is acidic to kill harmful bacteria while allowing healthy bacteria to thrive, the discharge also keeps vaginal tissues moist to protect from damage - vaginal walls are like the inside of your nose, mouth and eyes so discharge is a little like snot, saliva and tears in that it's there to keep those delicate tissues moist. When aroused you also get extra lubrication to help prevent damage or pain and increase pleasure during vaginal sex.

Discharge can show you when there's a problem: excessive discharge, unusual texture like cottage cheese or water, unusual color like grey or green, or bad odour like fish can all show an infection.
