You should try to figure out the cause. If it is very bad, then go to a pediatrician.

It sounds like gout. You would want to limit meat, caffeine and alcohol intake. Increase water intake (purified water) to half of your body weight in ounces. Soaking your feet in a warm bath of epsom salt and baking soda is also beneficial. You have gout if your toe is red or swollen
because your toe is broken of u have injured it
Ice 15 minutes on and 15 off and get some tylenol. Try not to think about it too.

If your canary has a bloody swollen toe you should take it to the veterinarian. Try cleaning it up with some peroxide but the bird should see a vet.
your shoes are probably too tight or you have stubbed your toe
No, probably not. Though you may need to contact your doctor for further information.
I would try ice or epsen salt.
You can't stop them from hurting. If they hurt, then they don't fit right. You should try them on before you buy them and walk a step or two; if they hurt, don't buy them. I have peep-toe shoes that don't hurt, and didn't from the first---that's because I bought the right size.
Usually work boots with a steel covering in the toe area to protect against heavy objects hurting the toes if they fall on them.
The number of people that have Gout is about 1-2 % of the population. Gout is pooling of fluid in the big toe that causes the toe to be swollen, hot and inflamed.
Red, Swollen, and possibly containing pus, blood, or clear seeping liquids.
Firstly, you need to figure out why it is hurting, so have a look at it in a mirror. If it is swollen as well as hurting: if it is swollen it could be infected, so it is very important that you don't take the jewellery out as it could heal up and leave the infection trapped in your skin. What you should do is clean it with a mild salt water solution, if it doesn't improve after a week of doing this, go to your doctor for antibiotics and to get the jewellery removed safely. If it is not swollen: if your cartilage piercing is hurting but isn't swollen, it could just be that you've slept on it funny, that your bar is too tight, or it could just be very slightly swollen and sore. If there isn't obvious swelling and the pain has come on suddenly it usually helps to just take the jewellery out for as long as you can then put it back in (only if it's healed though! If it isn't healed just loosen the bar if possible and clean the piercing)
