∙ 11y agoSPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. A higher SPF means your sunscreen is able to protect you from the sun more. It is recommended to use at least an SPF-15 sunscreen.
You can see on the back of sunscreen what the active ingredients are. Those ingredients provide the sun protection factor in the form of a number.

It must also be kept in mind that after a particular number the SPF does not count. What counts is whether the sunscreen gets washed out due to sweat or water and whether it gets wiped out due to clothing. If so then even if you have a SPF 200 sunscreen, you will need to reapply as required.
