An infant needs 10-12 hours of sleep. A child (6-10) needs 10-11 hours of sleep. A teenager (11-17) needs 8-10 hours of sleep. An adult (18-54) needs 7-8 hours of sleep. An elder (55+) needs 8-10 hours of sleep.

The average person needs 8 hours of sleep but it changes with age.

Newborns will sleep 20 hours a day or more, toddlers age 1 to 3 need about 12 hours of sleep per 24 hours, more when they are in a growth spurt.

Young school age kids ages 5 to 12 need 8 to 10 hours, but at that age it really depends on the child.

Teenagers need 8 to 10 or more hours of sleep daily, with most boys needing more sleep than girls at this age.

Young adults, on average need about 8 hours of sleep but are often able to function well for a time on less.

Older folks generally need far less sleep than the rest of the population, some as little as 6 hours per 24.

Growth and healing take place during the sleep cycle, so anyone recovering from surgery, illness, an injury or having a rapid growth spurt should be encouraged to sleep as much as possible.

It depends on the age group. Teens need just about nine hours of sleep. Whereas babies/infants need to sleep for around 16 hours a day. However, the average adult should get 8-10 hours of sleep every night.
