I am on methadone and have been for years. I am also taking college courses, one being Psych Substance Abuse and Addiction. The answer is until the methadone is out of your system. It may take days, weeks, or months. For me, it would take months, but if you took methadone but you're not used to taking it, probably a few days or so. Methadone does block the effects of heroin, which is why a lot of people use the methadone maintenance treatment programs. If I were to try to use heroin tomorrow, it would just be a waste of time and money because I wouldn't even feel it, and I would hella pissed, which is the purpose of it blocking the heroin. The withdrawal from methadone can take weeks or months, and it's more intense than heroin.

The second contributor is correct and I answered the contributors question in another post. As first described by Dole, Nyswander and Kreek, methadone, provided in sufficient doses (between 80-120 mg/day even though it can vary from person to person) produces an effect they coined, "Narcotic Blockade," in which an individual, on a sufficient methadone dose, would not experience euphoria and is therefore buffered from both the abstinence syndrome as well as the narcotic effects from other opioids.

naloxone has a short half life of only a few hours, the problem is that the buprenorphine is stronger than most opiates so your receptors will favor the bupe over the opiates for atleast 12 hours. If you took an entire 8mg suboxone u cant get high for atleast 12 to 24 hrs depending on tolereance.

As far as "blocking," 10mg of Methadone would NOT be a sufficient blockade dose for the majority of individuals. However, if the question is how long 10mg of Methadone will prevent withdrawal symptoms from setting in, the generally accepted answer would be approximately 28 hours; however, this varies widely among individuals and can last anywhere from 8 to 58 hours. The amount of time that methadone is in the body can also be effected by other medications which an individual is taking.

Methadone is not a opiate blocker. But It does have a long half life so I would be more careful not take other opiates. Cus of possible overdosing. Good luck and be safe

How long will methadone block other opiates if you have taken 30 mg for 3 days?

on a low dosage the opiates will not be blocked by methadone. 30 mg will not block it

How long will 30 milligrams of methadone stay in my system for?

for about 24-48 hours, it depends on your tolerance...if you have a low tolerance, yeah, but if you tolerance to methadone (or even other opiates) is high it, more than likely 1 day.....if you're asking how long methadone stays in your system, about 3-5 days, but you have to have a special drug test to detect methadone, and most Dr.'s or whoever does not test for methadone because it if too expensive for the testing for methadone rather than a regular drug test. Hope that helps ya!

Can you take norco and methadone?

You could take them together but its quite a waste eventually. Methadone works as a blocker of opiates . Heroin addicts get prescribed it to take away their withdrawal but also so they cant get high from herion anymore. You would have to be on it for a little while before that starts working but it eventually does. I used to take up to 30 vicodin and or norcos a day, and when i tried to get off it i was prescribed methadone. ++Addition++ First of all, methadone DOES NOT block the effects of opiates. It does not contain any of the opiate blocking chemicals like suboxone or narcon does. However, taking ANY opiate in addition to Methadone can be very dangerous. Methadone is stronger per mg than many of the standard opiates that people take, such as Norco or Lortab. So taking one of these with Methadone can very easily send you into overdose mode. This is not to say that they cannot be taken together, but you just have to be very, very careful. My suggestion would be to ALWAYS speak with your doctor or other licensed health care professional for advice on what to take with your methadone.

Will Vicodin help methadone withdrawal?

yeah it more that likely will calm them down a little but withdrawals are hard to deal with. I've gone through withdrawals from oxcycodone hcl 30 and mg methadone helped me with those withdrawals a lot and with my pain and it lasted twice as long as Oxycontin but the only thing is that methadone really messes with your head in the long run

How many mgs of methadone is required to get off fentenal lozenges 1600 mcg?

There is not a definite answer to this question. Each person is different and metabolizes medications differently. One person may be able to get by with 30-40mg of methadone and someone else may need as much as 320mgs some on doses as low as 5-10mgs. It just depends on what dose keeps you from craving and having withdrawal symptoms. I can tell you that most methadone clinics will only start out at 30-35mgs and then according to their clinic policy, they may increase it every day or every few days by 5-10mgs increments until you are no longer having withdrawals symptoms and cravings. Good luck whatever you do. I have been on both sides of the fence, addicted to opiates and taking the methadone and being dependent on methadone and IN MY OPINION, by far I would rather be dependent on methadone than addicted to other opiates. Each person is different in this situation as well so there will be some that don't agree with that statement. I would suggest you check out UNBIASED, accurate medical data before making your decision about methadone or not. You also may want to consider Suboxone. More expensive but less strict guidelines to follow.
