stratum lucidum
In thick skin, which covers the palms, fingertips, and soles of the feet, the epidermis consists of five layers (or strata). From deep to superficial, these layers are stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum. In thin skin, which covers the rest of the body, the stratum lucidum appears to be absent and other strata are thinner.
Thick skin can protect certain parts of the body but get in the way of normal funcion in other parts. That's why we have different skin thicknesses on our body.
If u have lot of hair (like your scalp) it is THIN skin. Thick skin is found in palms and soles where it is exposed to lot of pressure hence no hair follicles.
Skin can never really waste out unless you burn you skin off

Thin or wet skin is much less resistant than thick or dry skin
because thick skin would not loose as much protection if it was to shed compared to thin skin which already has litttle protection
