Ice the knee every 15 mins to reduce swelling.

Or try a very low dose diuretic. It can help to rid the body of excess fluids, but make sure to drink plenty of water so you don't dehydrate.

If your knee is swollen, you should always see a doctor incase it is something serious. if they says it's nothing serious, the best thing to do is to use Ice, Compression and elevation. To find out more, visit the related link below for tips on how to do them safely and effectively.

Ice it! If it hurts, take Asprin. If you think you broke it or sprained it, go to your doctor before you go to the hospital.

If you are going to ice it, make sure that you aren't icing it in more than 20-30 minute increments. If you do it may cause more damage because the muscles can possibly freeze up somewhat and make it harder for the muscles to stretch which is sometimes what happens in order to make the swelling go away. If you have bruising be careful for a bit.

First we must know the reason for the swealing. If it is an wound, surgical procedures may be applied. If reason for the Oedema is <internal bodily cause>, for example Rheumatism, Podagra-gout or Insufficiency of venous return ot heart malfunction, the approach is different. Better consult with Internal Medicine specialist first, He will treat the cause or will send you to another specialist

To help reduce swelling in any part of the body you should:

Apply a cold pack or ice to the area

Apply light pressure to the area

Rest the part of the body; in this case the knee, and try and keep from walking around too much

And finally try and raise the area to help reduce the blood flow; ultimately helping to reduce the swelling.

You should rest the knee and put something cold on it, ice or frozen peas wrapped in a towel works great. If it still hurts after a couple of days and the swelling doesn't get better you should go see a doctor.

What are the most common causes of knee pain?

Acute traumas and long-term illnesses are two common causes of knee discomfort. The following are some of the most typical causes of knee pain: One of the most common degenerative joint diseases that causes knee discomfort, particularly in older persons, is osteoarthritis. It happens as a result of the knee's protecting cartilage deteriorating over time. Acute injuries: Sudden knee pain can be brought on by fractures, dislocations, strains, meniscus tears, and ligament tears (such as ACL or MCL tears). Overuse injuries: Repetitive motion-intensive activities like running and leaping can result in overuse problems like ITBS and patellar tendinitis, which cause runner's knee. Trauma: A fall or other direct impact to the knee can result in pain, bruising, swelling, and possibly more serious injuries. Bursitis: Pain and swelling may result from inflammation of the bursae, which are tiny sacs filled with fluid that cushion the outside of the knee joint. Also referred to as "runner's knee," patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is characterized by pain surrounding the kneecap that is frequently made worse by strenuous activity like running, crouching, or ascending stairs.
