Currently, the most simplest and easiest way is to wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, followed by hand-drying with a paper towel. This takes about as long as it does to sing "Happy Birthday," so some hospitals recommend washing your hands for the duration of this simple tune! If running water or soap isn't available at that moment, an alcohol-based hand gel or wipe will do.

Other ways to prevent an infection is to

  • Never EVER share your personal belongings with another person. In kindergarten, they taught you to share your toys and keep your hands to yourself. In real life, you keep your toys AND your hands to yourself.
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, but NEVER with your hands. Instead, cover your mouth with your arm, sleeve or the crook of the elbow.
  • Get vaccinated. You never know when you'll get the flu or the chicken pox, and yes, another word for a vaccination is a shot. For kids 9 and below, ya it sounds scary, and it may hurt a bit, but you'll be thankful for it later. Some schools don't even let you IN unless you have proof that you took a certain shot.
  • Watch the news. You never know when a disease can strike the area that you're planning to camp.

Why would you want to do that? We didn't develop and survive as a species by being completely protected from all infection. Your body is designed to survive many infections, and end up stronger as a result.

One way would be to live, literally, in a bubble, but then you wouldn't have much of a life. The threat of some dangerous infections like HIV can be minimized by clean and careful sexual practice with one partner. Other infections can be avoided with generally good hygiene and a healthy lifestyle.

Some infections will be impossible to avoid in the course of everyday living; the people who died or are very ill as a result of the current e. coli outbreak did not contract it by doing anything wrong, and could have done nothing realistic to avoid it.

Use proper disinfectants to keep your house clean. Use medicated soaps and lotions. Make sure your hands are clean before you take them near your mouth. Always keep hand sanatiser with you. Keep a hanky 2 wipe hands and face regularly. Don't walk around your house with the same footwear which you use when you travel. As soon as you enter your house wash your hands and feet. While dealing with an infected person be careful and take the precautions needed. Keep your physical relations clean. Use preacutions to avoid sexualy transmitted diseases. If you or anyone around you is not well take proper treatment as soon as possible stay healthy stay happy :)

Cross infection is prevented by keeping areas sterile and bacteria and germs contained to one spot. Wearing gloves, washing hands and being cautious can prevent this somewhat.
