it depends what type and where but you have one in a pimple if you touch it and it hurts, or if its very firm. sometimes there is no way to know if its Small. but if it hurts badly and is firm you definitely have one
I will assume you are referring to ovarian cysts and say there is one word: PAIN. If you are hurting horribly, feel like you are getting stabbed when you walk, and pushing on the pelvic region of your abdomen hurts really bad and makes you feel sick, (the severity of the symptoms depends on the size of the ovarian cyst) then it has busted. Rest, take IBprofen, and if necessary, use a heating pad. If it is much better or gone in about 3 days, it definitely busted. If the pain gets much worse, or you have a fever or anything weird, go seek medical attention ASAP. I get 'em every month, just to let you know that someone feels your pain :(.
You should go to the doctors and get it drained before it grows and erupts. It was very painful when it happened to me.

Ovarian torsion and rupture which may cause severe pain are the complications of the ovarian cysts.
If you have an ovarian cyst that has ruptured, you will feel sudden and severe abdominal and pelvic pain. You may also have a fever and vomiting and you should seek medical attention right away if you think you have a ruptured ovarian cyst.
When an ovarian cyst ruptures, the fluid ends up in the cul-de-sac due to gravity.
