Estrogen, a common ingredient in Birth Control pills, increase the blood level of Thyroid Binding Globulin (TBG). Since TBG binds available thyroid hormone, a patient on birth control pills may have decreased levels of thyroid hormone. This is RARELY a problem, unless a patient has preexisting hypothyroidism. Of course, only your physician can detect this. **Medical Disclaimer: The information contained in this answer is provided for your general information only. I am, in no way, giving medical advice. No Lamictal does not affect birth control. I take Lamictal for epilepsy and have been on birth control for 6 years. However, I was on the depo shot and was told this wasn't going to be a problem, pill form, could be different.

above website says the following:-

  • Topiramate may reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill. Speak to your doctor about contraception.
  • You may have to change your pill or use another method of contraception such as condoms.

above website give even more info including the following:-

Here's a list of drugs that can stop contraceptive pills and contraceptive injections from working properly. These drugs may also affect some intrauterine devices (coils or IUDs) that release hormones, such as the Mirena coil.

  • carbamazepine
  • lamotrigine (Lamictal)
  • oxcarbazepine (Trileptal)
  • phenytoin (Epanutin)
  • phenobarbital
  • primidone (Mysoline)
  • topiramate (Topamax)

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), the government body that decides which treatments should be available on the NHS, says that if you are taking one of these drugs:[1]

  • You should talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of using contraceptive pills or contraceptive injections. There are lots of other contraceptives, including condoms or an intrauterine device (IUD) that does not release hormones
  • You should not use the mini pill (progesterone-only pill)
  • You should not use contraceptive implants such as Implanon
  • If you decide to use combined contraceptive pills (pills that contain oestrogen and progesterone) you will need one containing at least 50 micrograms of oestrogen
  • If you decide to use injections of progesterone such as Depo Provera, you will need a repeat injection after 10 weeks instead of the usual 12 weeks.

'Morning after pills' (such as Levonelle) may not work as well as they should. If you have had unprotected sex and don't want to get pregnant, see your doctor. He or she may recommend you take a higher dose of the morning after pill. Or you could have another kind of treatment, such as an IUD or coil.

no antidepressants dont change the effectiveness of birth control pills. but you should use condoms anyways and talk to your doctor if you are concerned. and ive heard that you are supposed to stop taking antidepressants a couple of months before you try and become pregnant so they probably cause some kind of harm to the fetus.

Okay so this person writes: There are no known drug to drug interactions between these two medications, making them safe to take together. Make sure to contact you primary care provider prior to taking these two medications to ensure that it is safe.

Speaking from experience, I am 165 pound 5'3" female who began a month and a half ago on yaz, while I at the same time taking vyvanse 30mg. My reaction to the mixture was terrible! Just days after starting Yaz I began periods of rapid mood cycling with severe depression, had more than one occurrence of suicidal thoughts, and was severely fatigued the whole time. Taking the Yaz in combination with Vyvanse was a mistake! My blood sugar would crash a couple times a day causing me horrible angry moods. My concentration seemed worse than with no medication, so it seemed that Yaz made Vyvanse completely ineffective for me. I went off of Yaz after finishing my pack a week ago and a day later the vyvanse was working great again! I felt better than my usual self and up until today have had none of those terrible side effects. I don't feel groggy and drugged and I actually have been motivated to do stuff again! If you are thinking about taking Yaz while on Vyvanse, take it from me, it is a complete mistake and although it could vary from person to person, the combination of these two pills are not good!

There are no drug interactions between synthroid and the birth control pill. Make sure that the person who prescribes the Synthroid knows you started the birth control pill, so that any resulting changes in your thyroid labs can be accounted for.
