I had two lots of double cortisone injections into a frozen shoulder last year. On both occasions I had a very extended bleed on my next menstruation, the first time for 7 weeks, the second for 6 weeks, the bleeding only stopping with the prescription of further hormones from my GP. The bleed was not heavy, but very persistent and tiresome. As soon as the cortisone wore off, the extended menstrual bleeding stopped.

∙ 15y agoI have personally found that it does. And the last time I had one my doctor said it would as I mentioned I'm trying to get pregnant. And sure enough I got my period a week early, don't think I ovulated, and it was a very light period. Its annoying, however, that doctors don't inform you of all the side effects because I also experienced mood swings and insomnia after the last one....

∙ 9y agoCortisone injections can affect the menstrual cycle. A side effect of this injection can be irregular or missed menstrual periods. Some other side effects are anxiety, a flushed face, bruising at injection site, or headaches.

∙ 13y agoI have recently gone thru this issue - a cortisone shot and then two weeks later a period after three yrs without one. A trip to the gyno and a stransvaginal sonogram and an endometrial biopsy have come back inconsequential; signs point to the cortisone shot as the cause at this point. WOW -- a side effect nobody warned ME about, that's for sure. The more I research this, the more unsettled I become. My shoulder doc is a woman, too. You would think SHE would have a clue! Kinda scary...

∙ 11y agoIt might. I hadn't had a period for 1-1/2 years, and 2 weeks after an epidural, I had a period which lasted almost 2 weeks. I'm going for testing now to see if it's anything else (just to be on the safe side), but my gyn is suggesting this might be from the epidural. Sure wish the doctor told me this!

B12 vitamins don't really have any effect on the menstrual cycle - although all round good nutrition does help regulate hormones, so in turn helps regulate menstrual cycles. B12 in particular can help ease menstrual cramps.

He thought it would not affect it since the steroid would be staying in the spinal canal. Well, guess what?? Here it is June and my hair has been falling out starting the end of April and is continuing to fall out by the handfulls now. Hopefully it will stop soon. My dermatologist told me this is definitely a side effect to steroid injections and about the time you start freaking out about it because your hair is getting so thin, it seems to suddenly stop. Keep your fingers crossed!! I know I will never have another steroid injection again!
