The Lotus Hotel and Casino is based off of a real life casino in Las Vegas which closed in 1978 and a ficticious version appears in The Lightning Thief. The movie version is made so an hour in the Casino is a day in real life, you never get older or want to leave. Percy, Annabeth and Grover get stuck there but manage to leave when Percy realizes he's playing a game with someone from the 70's. He manages to clear Annabeth's senses by talking about Spiders. Grover is dragged out. When they leave, the hero's realize 5 days have gone by, because when you eat there dish ''The Lotus Flower'' you are then put into a 'trance' that makes you not want to leave.
