one lb is 16 oz. so we have 40 oz x 1 lb/16 oz=40/16=5/2 lbs which is 2 and 1/2 lbs. OR you could just say, 16x2=32 that is 2 lbs and then another 1/2 lb is 32+8 =40

Multiply pounds by 16 to get ounces. So, 40 x 16 = 640 ounces.
