Why do gale and Peeta Mellark not coexit well in katniss's thoughts?

Gale and Katniss grew up in the Seam, in poverty, giving them a much different perspective than Peeta. Gale and Katniss have to fight for everything they need and Peeta has always had what he needed right in front of him.

Katniss and Gale are responsible for putting food on the table and taking care of their families, takng on very adult roles in their households, whereas Peeta's household has a mother, father, and a steady income.

Gale hadn't confessed any love for her and they hadn't had any form of a romantic relationship, they were just friends. Peeta had gone through The Hunger Games with Katniss and he did love her, and he had loved her all his life.

Katniss and Gale have been together for several years as hunting partners and then as best friends, and therefore Katniss trusts Gale and tells him anything. Katniss has known Peeta for a long time as well and has been grateful for his offering of bread many years ago, but has never spoke to him until the Hunger Games. Their experiences in both the 74th and 75th Hunger Games gives them a deep bond. She loves both Peeta and Gale, but eventually chooses Peeta, since the relationship with Gale she once had can never return.
