Lord Voldemort was using the Elder wand which belonged to Albus Dumbledore until Draco Malfoy disarmed him shortly before his death. This meant that Draco became the master of the Elder wand - but nobody except Dumbledore knew that. The wand was then buried with Dumbledore until Voldemort stole it from his grave and began using it, although it never worked properly for him.
Shortly afterwards, Harry was captured and taken to Malfoy Manor. During their escape he grabbed a handful of wands from Draco Malfoy and rightfully became the master of those. Since one of those wands was Draco's, Harry became the master of the Elder wand. Something he also wasn't aware of.
Lord Voldemort than incorrectly assumed that Snape, being the one to kill Dumbledore, was the wands master and killed him. He only found out after he had destroyed the Horcrux inside Harry and was in the final showdown with him. There Harry revealed that Draco was the master and that Snape had arranged to kill Dumbledore with the headmaster himself.
Voldemort didn't believe him and tried to use the wand against Harry anyway. The wand then recognised his owner, refused to be used against him and flew towards him - leaving Voldemort unable to defend himself from his own rebounding killing curse.

∙ 12y agoHarry's wand had been taken from him and he was going to watch his friends get hurt and possibly die along with himself if he didn't get wands. It was the only way they could escape.
