Versions by Billy Joe Royal, Bruce Willis (a #2 success in the UK), and Lynn Anderson (#24 on the Country singles) all reached the Billboard charts.

By tthe way the German Phrase Bordwart- means Bord warden or monitor- the guy who sat behind the (Christmas Tree) on a submarine and monitoried the whole diving process- the ballast control officer, in US usage.
