The first man to win an Academy Award (Oscar) was Emil Jannings. He won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1929 for his work in The Way of All Flesh and The Last Command.

He was also the first person to win an Oscar since Best Actor was the first award presented that night.

Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett are the only Australian actresses to win Academy Awards. Kidman won the 2002 Best Actress award for her portrayal of British writer Virginia Woolf in "The Hours." Blanchett won the 2004 Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayal of actress Katharine Hepburn in "The Aviator." Blanchett is the only person to win an Oscar for playing an Oscar winner.
