The Impossible Dream written for the musical Man of La Mancha, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. It has been recorded many times by many stars.
The best known version of it, is Andy Williams' featured in the Honda Advert.
The Play Man From La Mancha opened on Broadway ( actually it started out at ANTA Washington Square Theatre , Greenwich Village Then moving To The Martin beck Theatre ) Richard KIley won a Tony award and it was his version that was first released in the Play's Album. Rex Harrison had open the play in Conn. prior to it Broadway run, but left the play because he felt unable to perform the scored at that time. Richard Kiley's version is by far the best of all the recorded version .I agree that Andy Williams version is excellent, but because Mr Kiley was best known as a Broadway Actor he does not get the credit as one of the best vocalist of his generation. He also introduced the song Stranger in Paradise from the Play Kismet as a young man.
