If we are talking most tickes sold for a single event (one day) then in 1985 MENUDO( a puertorican male-teenage group) gather 200,000 people in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to sing"Dulces besos" and many other songs.

In 1991, A-Ha set a Guinness Book World Record by playing for the largest paying audience in the world: 198,000 people. This was a statium concert in Rio, and I do not think it has been beaten to date. This was widely reported by VH1, however, there is no faqing way that it is true. Think about it.

If you're going for total, it's different. If you go with "in relation to how long the band was together or performed", The Beatles had to hold the record for sold out shows. They were indeed the first band to do a concert in a stadium! They only performed a couple of years when they said no more shows. They stayed together for at least three years after that. The total time the didn't perform was longer than when they did.

For the total number of tickets sold, I would have to say The Grateful Dead. They played a lot of shows for a lot of years and would sell out Madison Square Garden for a week every year, not to mention their numerous sold out Stadium gigs.

The Beatles certainly sold huge numbers of tickets for the brief tenure of Beatlemania, but they were doing live gigs for several years before Beatlemania.

I think Hannah Montana would claim the top spot if you figure sold out shows in relation to total shows, but I have no numbers to back that up.

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS NOT TRUE. Billboard says that the Dave Matthews Band has sold the most concert tickets in history, with over 15 million sold.

^^Dave Matthews?? Are you joking?? The Grateful Dead played 2,318 shows and for years played venues with a capacity between 30,000 to 50,000.

I believe for one day ticket sales was the Backstreet boys with 765,000 tickets sold in one day. selling out 53 concert dates back in 1999...

15 millions and highest? na.. Bon Jovi has sold nearly 34 millions concerts tickets, And they'll be somewhere at the top

HELLO??? METALLICA ANYONE!?!?!?!?!? They have been playing WORLDWIDE FOR YEARS!!! Any "Rock" band will top everybody. A/C D/C, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Clapton, and so on and so fourth. I could go on for pages and pages with bands that would blow away in sheer numbers what all you guys are talking about...........Backstreet boys? Really? Bon Jovi....would be pretty high. Grateful Dead? Come on dude.....? Dave Matthews has not been around near enough to even be considered here either. WHAT ABOUT KISS? I hate them. But damn....they didnt even "record" albums in the studio....it was all live.....literally years upon years of touring.

Ok first DMB is unoriginal and is bad music. second 15 million sold is not much compared to the grateful dead. they sold 1.7 million in 1993 alone. THEY WERE TOURING FROM 1968 until jerry died in 1995. That's 27 years of that touring. do some math 1.7 x 27= 45.9 million. most likely a little lower than that but still DMB? they are terrible and will continue to suck for as long as Dave lives.

But to date the top 3 slots go to The Beattles at over 300million, Garth Brooks at over 100million, and Elvis at 45million, its in the worlds greatest singers, hits, and albums in the wiki...look it up.
