People from the 70s listened to music in record players. Although it is a very old form of music a good amount of people still listen to records now some would say the sound quality is better.
The 1970s feature a wide variety of music. Progressive rock, glam rock, and psychedelic rock were popular early on. Of course there was rock and rhythm and blues. There were blues, folk rock, country, and Motown. Later on Disco and Punk Rock began to take hold. Heavy Metal also grew quite a bit in the 70s.
In the early 70's power rock trios were popular. Later, disco became huge. Then, it was back to classic/hard rock. Some popular rock bands in the 70's include, The Who, Led Zep, Queen, and Aerosmith. Many people consider the music from the 70's to be the best music.
All the existing musical styles were still popular during the 70's, including soul, funk, jazz and rock. However Disco Music first became popular during the 70's.
Some popular music was disco music and some of the popular songs were songs like Le Freak, I will survive, Staying Alive, YMCA and Funky Town.

No way to really answer that, as there is no set definition as to what 'old school' music is. For someone born in the late 90s, music from the early 90s might be 'old school' to them, whereas it might not be for someone born in the 70s.
