After Rawhide , Eric Fleming took part in a Doris Day vehicle The Glass Bottom Boat where he played a suave spy, and then was signed to star in High Jungle, an MGM adventure film shot in Peru. During the final stages of shooting, Fleming's dugout canoe overturned in theHuallaga River. Actor Nico Minardos managed to swim to safety, but Fleming was swept away by the current and drowned on September 28, 1966

Eric Fleming was the star of the television Western Rawhide which ran for 8 seasons (59-66). He died between the 7th and 8th seasons when he was filming a movie in Peru named High Jungles. On September 28, 1965, his dugout canoe overturned in the Huallaga River and he was drowned.

Unfortunately, Eric is 'not' still alive. He died in a freak accident while making a film in South America.......A very sad story.
