The Hobbit has many Spiders in it, but I'm not sure if they have names. The giant spider in The Lord of the Ringsis Shelob, though (I think I got The Lord of the Rings part from someone else.

∙ 10y agoWhich one? There are many creatures that could be called "monsters" in The Lord of the Rings. Your rank and file monsters are orcs, or Uruk-Hai for the large ones from The Two Towers. These monsters comprise the most part of the armies of Mordor and Isengard.
In The Fellowship of the Ring, the monster that attacks the Fellowship in the Chamber of Marzabul (The one with Balin's tomb in the film) is an unnamed cave troll.
The monster/fiery demon that Gandalf fights on the bridge is called a Balrog.
The giant spider in Return of the King that nearly eats Frodo is the only monster with a name--Shelob.
The Balrog's true name is Durin's bane, as It killed the high dwarf king Durin. It's leader was Morgoth, the highest of the balrogs

Actually, there are a number of monsters in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and movies; these include goblins, orcs, trolls, dragons, Shelob the giant spider, the Balrog, the ring wraiths (or nazgul), and most terrible of all, Sauron.
