There is no difference, but some schools use "symphonic" to differentiate between the general band and a more advanced group. It may be considered more politically correct to call it symphonic than to say "honors" or "advanced."
Since this appears to be a basic question, I will keep the answer basic. First of all, the symphony orchestra contains string instruments (violin, viola cello, string bass) and the band does not. Second, the orchestra plays while seated and the band is mobile. The marching band, opposed to the symphonic wind ensemble, traditionally employs a larger number of brass instruments (trumpet, cornet, Trombone, tuba) than woodwinds (flute, Clarinet). Of the woodwinds, the Saxophone and piccolo are more prominently featured in the marching band than a wind ensemble, and conversely the french horn (brass) is used more often in a wind ensemble. Percussion instruments are also more prominent in a marching band than in the symphony orchestra, where they are used for delicate and/or dramatic effect as well as the color they provide.
A jazz band is much smaller (the largest would be 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 5 trumpets, and 4 rhythm) and requires a significant amount of doubling from its wind players. Concert bands are generally a minimum of 40 people, and play a wider variety of music.
A symphony usually consists of string instruments in addition to the usual concert band instruments. Also, there are usually less concert instruments in a symphony than in a concert band.
A symphony has strings, and much smaller wind and brass sections.

There is no difference in the actual instrument, it's just the style of music that is played. A jazz flute is in a jazz band, and plays jazz music. Jazz parts for flutes are very rare though.
That really depends on the sax. The Alto, Baritone, Tenor, and soprano saxes are all usually in a jazz band together but a soprano is not used in concert band. The alto, tenor, and bari are all in concert band.
they are the same
Concert bands usually have 6-8 trumpets, and jazz bands usually have 4-5. Few rock bands use trumpet; Cake is a prominent example of trumpet in pop music.
