The night harry's mother sacrificed herself for him, a part of voldemorts soul attached onto the only living thing (harry) hence making harry into a horcrux, and also meaning harry can talk to snakes (like voldemort) and see into his mind.

Some characteristics of a Greek Hero:

1. He is the subject of a prophesy

2. He is abandoned at birth or while very young

3. He preformed an amazing feat at a young age

4. He goes on a quest

5. He travels to the underworld

(There are also others that do not relate to Harry Potter)

In the Harry Potter series:

1. Harry is the subject, along with the Dark Lord, of a prophesy made by Sybill Trelawney saying that "neither can live while the other survives".

2. Harry's parents are killed by You-Know-Who when he is one and Harry is abandoned on his Aunt's doorstep.

3. Harry survived the killing curse (Avada Kedavra) when You-Know-Who tried to murder him when he was a baby. This had never been done before. He also made the most powerful, dark wizard at that time disappear for 13 years when the curse rebounded.

4. Harry's training at Hogwarts and all his school years of solving mysteries culminate in Harry battling and destroying Voldemort. The journey that readied him for that fateful meeting was his quest (especially training at Hogwarts, and the traveling he does in the Deathly Hallows, where he stays in a tent).

5. Harry does not exactly go to the underworld, but he does go to a place where he can speak with the formerly deceased Dumbledore and where he can see the parts of Voldemort and himself that have just died. This in-between-earth-and-whatever-lies-beyond place is a parallel of a hero's trip to the underworld.

There are many more than just three ways linking Harry Potter and Ancient Greeks. Possibly the three easiest ways are as follows.

1. Fluffy, the three headed dog that guards the entrance to the rooms linked to hide the Philosopher's Stone is a direct reference to Cerberus, the three headed dog that guarded the enterance to Hades.

2. The Sphynx in the maze in the Goblet of Fire, sets a riddle which Harry can answer to save going back and finding a longer route is another direct reference to the Sphynx on the road to Corinth which Oedipus encounters and answers a riddle, just as Harry does, with the same outcome if the answer is incorrect that the Sphynx will kill him.

3. The maze itself is a direct reference to the Minoan Maze which held the Minotaur. Even though in the book, the minotaur wasn't present, it can be said that the Imperiused Viktor Krum is acting like the Minotaur by getting rid of the others to enable Harry to win and therefore be transported to the cemetry and the waiting Voldemort.

4. Sorry but just remembered this one, the centaurs in the Forbidden Forest.

Tom Riddle is Lord Voldemort. When Voldemort tried to kill Harry, he accidentally turned him into a Horcrux, leaving Harry and Voldemort with a connection. This is why Harry can speak Parseltongue and why, in later books, he can feel Voldemort's emotions.

The Harry Potter series is a charming story and a vaguely Christian allegory. Circe, Paracelsus, and Agrippa are names from the Greek Mythology. The Centaurs are from ancient stories.
