Charles Fredrick worth was born on October 13th, 1825 in Bourne, Linkshire, England. Before his big success in Paris, France in 1946, he worked in several drapery shops located in London. While working in the shop, he married one of the firm's models, Marie Vernet. Marie modeled shawls and bonnets for customers. Charles made a few simple dresses for his wife and customers started to ask for copies of the dresses. He begged his partners to expand into dressmaking, but they didn't want to risk their reputation in a business as low-class as dressmaking. Then Charles met the rich Otto Bobergh, who was willing to enter and open the dressmaking company of Worth and Bobergh in 1858. He was soon reconized by the French Empress Eugine, and after that by many titled, rich, and other women. He designed for actresses like Sarah Bernard. Many of his customers travelled to Paris from other countries, coming from far away places like New York and Boston. He is known as the first designer to put labels onto the clothing he made. He had been in dressmaking practice, four times every year he displayed model dresses at fashion shows. His assistants would pick a model, which would then be sewn in fabrics of their choice and tailored to fit them. Worth was so fashionable that he had to turn away customers. He completely revolutionized the business of dressmaking. He was the first of the couture designers, and dressmakers who were considered artists.
