Katniss notices a trackerjacker next hanging in the tree, so she cuts it down. When it hits the ground, it breaks open and the tributes run to escape. Katniss is stung also and begins to hallucinate, but Peeta comes back and tells her to run. She runs in the other direction before passing out. When she awakens, she discovers that Rue has been taking care of her.

Katniss also blacks out after injecting Peeta with medicine. She lays down from her lose of blood, and the last thing she remembers is that an exquisite butterfly lands on her wrist.
