in Chicago it mean the same thing but it's also used to describe someone younger than you. a lot of these hip hop terms originate in Chicago but is never given due credit. Like (fam)family, shawty, "on the real", "whats crackin", etc....

Shawty is a term of endearment. It could be your child or it could be your main girl, woman or wife. For a female a shawty would be a child. For a male it could be a child and a significant other. Someone you care for. Weird, huh?

Shawty is what you call your girlfriend or you call someone Shawty when SHE is hot (It doesn't work with boys). Usually in rap/hip hop songs you would hear it.

Shawty (came from the word 'shorty') can also mean call as in to reserve.

Common times you hear this word:

GIRL:

"Watch Shawty dance!" or (from song "Fire Burning") "Shawty's fire burning on the dance floor."

CALL:

"I shawty shotgun!" or "I shawty the orange chair."
