Bilbo's personality changed quite a lot. He was, in the beginning a coward, who would rather stay inside and have company than go out on an adventure (as were all hobbits). Over the course of the quest, he became a brave warrior, willing to fight for his friends. he also became a bit crooked near the end of The Hobbit, due to the power of the Ring.
