There are so many, and I'm sure that no individual thinks that they're is the best. For me, I like pianists who compose their own music and don't just emulate what other composers have written. Truly great pianists to watch out for today are:

Havasi, Kissen and Lang Lang. Ferenc Liszt was probably the best throughout history in terms of blinding technique, listen to Rachmaninov...and Shostakovich was no slouch either!

Answer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Answer This is a simplistic answer to a question of opinion. Mozart was a great composer who as a child attracted attention playing piano recitals. Half a century later, Franz Liszt had the reputation of being a supreme virtuoso performer on the piano. A century after that, Vladimir Horowitz had a similar reputation for his technique though his musicianship was often called into question. "Best" requires distinguishing between technical facility and interpretive depth of insight, not always combined in the same person. Many great pianists have to be characterized as simply great Beethoven interpreters or great Chopin interpreters, but not so many are equally acclaimed in all styles. Answer This is a very subjective answer, as so many are possible depending upon the style, or of whom a pianist is renowned as an interpreter. There are so many great names - Horowitz, Paderewzki, Rachmaninof - even George Gershwin who was probably one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time along with Oscar Levant, Oscar Peterson and George Shearing. But, within the musical world, and as a pianist myself, most agree that the grand master must be Franz Liszt. He was renowned as a virtuoso pianist, as a formidable sight reader (there is an urban myth that he once played the Grieg Piano Concerto at sight - and the performance was better than Grieg's own) and his piano works rank as some of the most difficult in the pianist's repertoire, and yet were played with ease by the master himself.

It all depends on personal opinion. I myself owned a Steinway and Sons piano and I loved it. Although there are more popular names such as Baldwin and others.
