In the thank you's on their album "A beautiful lie" Jared thanks "Jesus the Christ", but then again he also thanks "Buddha", so I'm not very sure.......you can't be a christian and a Buddhist.....but I do have a theory on the song "This Is War"......In the Album "This Is War" it is connected to "100 Suns". I think there is reason for this. I think it's about the final war in The Bible. In This Is War, the lyrics are....

To the right, to the left.

We will fight to the death.

To the edge of the earth.

It's a brave new world, it's a brave new world!

I think the brave new world is heaven. And later in the song it says....

I do believe in the light, raise your hands into the sky.

The fight is done, the war is won, lift your hands toward the sun.

To the right to the left. We will fight to the death- God and Satan are at war.

To the edge of the Earth- By the end of the war, there will be no Earth.

It's a brave new world!- Heaven is the brave new world

I do believe in the light- He does believe in God.

The fight is done, the war is won- God won the war against Satan.

By the end of the song, we're all in Heaven, because God won the war, and so in 100 Suns, we should already be there. The lyrics are....

I believe in nothing, not the end and not the start- There won't be an end or a start in Heaven.

I believe in nothing, not the Earth and not the stars- There will be no such thing as Earth or the stars.

I believe in nothing, not the day and not the dark- No day or night.

I believe in nothing, but the beating of our hearts- If we're there in Heaven, we have eternal life, so therefore, our hearts are beating.

I believe in nothing, 100 suns until we part- Sorry, I didn't get this one.

I believe in nothing, not in sin and not in God- All of our sins will be washed away, and we won't just believe in God, we will know.

I believe in nothing, not in peace and not in war- No peace or war anymore.

I believe in nothing, but the truth in who we are- Sorry, didn't get this one either.

I'm only 12 but I love 30 Seconds To Mars and I was so curious about their religion, so I started looking for messages in their songs and i found this.....still not sure about the whole "Jesus and Buddha" thing, but I'd say they're predominantly Christian.

My impression was that they're anti-christians. For example, take their video for "A Beautiful Lie", near the end of the video (around 5:33) a cross flashes during the chorus a few times "it's a beautiful lie, it's a perfect denial"- take that how you will. Another red flag for we was the song "Savior" they had, that to me sounds like some sort of slap in the face to Christ's sacrifice.

---

That's a good point of view but Jared Leto was actually engaged at one point to Cameron Diaz but she broke the engagement, "A Beautiful Lie" is mainly about global warming problems but also refers to Jared's inspiration to write the song itself due to his and Diaz's breakup, saying how their being together was all "A Beautiful Lie". For the song "Savior", it's not about Christ, or drugs. It's about a woman (again Cameron Diaz). His heart had been destroyed and at one point after the breakup, she wanted to save him after she harmed him so, but he didn't want her help. So at the end the lyrics were

"Save me, save me, save me / I don't care"

So in the end even if Leto did let her save him, he wouldn't care for Diaz either way.

---

30STM aren't really christian but they do have religious views towards the Lord. Most screamo bands such as Underoath and the Devil Wears Prada may sound in a way Satanic, but they're really Christian, not everyone is able to understand certain music such as hardcore or screamo and therefor just casts those genres into the "anti-Christian department".

In the song "100 Suns" in their album "This is War" it is sung:

I believe in nothing not the end and not the start

I believe in nothing not the earth and not the stars

I believe in nothing not the day or not the dark

I believe in nothing but the beating of our hearts

I believe in nothing 100 suns until we part

I believe in nothing not in sin and not in God

I believe in nothing not in peace and not in war

I believe in nothing but the truth in who we are

To add to this we cannot know whether someone is a Christian by sight but we can observe their fruit.

Matthew 7:16

You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Matthew 12:33

"A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.

From previous lyrics that were listed I do see untruth and lies if you like me believe the Bible is truth. From the lyrics above he says he believes in nothing. To believe in nothing indicates an Atheism belief system.

-------------------------

Umm well the song you're talking about is 100 Suns and it comes after this is war on the album and I'm very certain it means that we're in Heaven and we don't believe in those things any more, merely because they do not exist in Heaven, and the part where he says "I believe in nothing, not in sin and not in God" means that in Heaven, we won't just believe, we will know. And sin won't exist anymore because all of our sins will be washed away.

See my theory at the top.

Now to analyze the song Kings and Queens in a Christian mentality. I don't know why he wrote this song or to what he is referring yet as I saw earlier he seems to write about life experiences. I was taken away by the sound of the song because it kind of sounds like a Phil Wickham in some aspects at least live.

Kings and Queens Lyrics

Into the night

Desperate and broken

The sound of a fight

Father has spoken

We were the kings and queens of promise

We were the victims of ourselves

Maybe the children of a lesser God -

Between Heaven and Hell

Heaven and Hell

Into your eyes

Hopeless and taken

We stole our new lives

Through blood and pain

In defense of our dreams

In defense of our dreams

We were the Kings and Queens of promise

We were the victims of ourselves

Maybe the Children of a lesser God

Between Heaven and Hell

Heaven and Hell

The age of man is over

A darkness comes and all

These lessons that we learned here

Have only just begun

We were the Kings and Queens of promise

We were the victims of ourselves

Maybe the Children of a Lesser God

Between Heaven and Hell

We are the Kings

We are the Queens

We are the Kings

We are the Queens

The main verse that bothers me and makes me shake in fear of the Lord is the lyrics Maybe the Children of a Lesser God. God is most definitely not a Lesser God.

Now with the following lyrics I have a problem because we are called to be servants, disciples and ambassadors of Christ not Kings and Queens. Pride, or haughtiness, is the original sin of Satan. The story of his fall in Isaiah 14:12-15 is peppered with five "I will's:" "I will ascend into heaven...I will exalt my throne...I will sit also upon the mount...I will ascend above the heights...I will be like the most High." In his pride, he exalted himself. Only that which he wanted was important. Nothing else mattered.

We are the Kings

We are the Queens

The next part I have a problem with is We stole our new lives. Because we didn't steal anything. Jesus laid down his life for us and it is a free gift.

______________________________________________________________

I can see what your saying ^^^ but you have to take lyrics in context, the song "100 suns" comes right after "this is war", im pretty sure it is about the final war described in the Bible. i know you might say 'what about the part where he says the messiah' but this probably means the false christ that will come to try to decieve us. At the end of "this is war" he says, the fight is done, the war is won, raise your hands toward the sun," and "i do believe in the light." So that part is probably saying that the war is over and Jesus returned for us, and then it goes into "100 suns". and if you take the lyrics in context, they make perfect sense, once we are in heaven, we wont be able to sin. "i believe in nothing, not in sin," and also once we are in heaven, we wont just believe anymore, we will finally see God. So then the lyrics, " i believe in nothing, not in sin and not in God, make sense, because hes saying we will already be in heaven and seeing Jesus and God, and it wont just be a belief anymore.

And the song Kings and Queens could very well be religious.

The chorus is very clear, here I'll analyze for you.

"we were the kings and queens of promise." -this means, we were God's chose people.

"we were the victims of ourselves." -this is talking about when Adam and Eve first sinned, we were God's chose people until they decided to do their own will, not God's

"maybe the children of a lesser god." -this talks about the many times we turn our backs on the real God, and serve things of this world, such as money and drugs etc. and ignore the plan God has for us.

"between heaven and hell." -this is meerly a fancy way of saying on earth.

So mash that all together, and the chorus basically means we where God's chosen people until we dissobeyed Him by our actions, then we became in a sense, servants of wordly things while we are here on earth.

And at the end of the song, when he says

"we are the kings,"

"we are the queens,"- he is referring to how even though we failed to obey God, Jesus made the sacrifice and lived the life we couldn't and restored the relationship between us and God.

I have a question that may help define the discussion. Has anyone read any literature (such as an album-cover), where the band members publish their thank-you's? A lot of Christian artists do thank Jesus/God primarily, when writing these, and it may be a good indication as to where their priorities lie. I'm not saying that if they don't thank Jesus as their Saviour that they're not Christians, but if they do have these type of publications, and they don't mention the gifts God gives and offers, that maybe they haven't yet accepted them. Let's remember to show everyone God's LOVE, and why not keep them in your prayers too?

Romans 10, verse 9: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (The Message version).

Jesus wants everyone on the planet to know His love, and it's the job of Christians (with all our failings) to show this love.

______________________________________________________________

Also look at the verses of another song from their new album, "Search and Destroy":

Grab your gun

Time to go to hell

I'm no hero

Guilty as charged

Search and destroy

Found my faith

Living in sin, I'm no Jesus

but neither are you my friend

I'm a whore

A birth of broken dreams

This simple answer is never what it seems

A million little pieces

We've broken into

A million little pieces

I've stolen it from you

(chorus)

Sold my soul

To heaven and to hell

Sick as my secrets

But never gonna tell

I'm to blame

Burden of my dreams

A curse of faith and a blessing I believe

I believe, I believe

Oh, I believe

I believe...

I don't really like analyzing too deep because I've heard some pretty awesome sounding lyrics mean something totally different, and some weird sounding music-like underoath-actually be quite amazing as the person above mentioned.

So with that said, I would say just look at the lyrics and interpret them yourself and decide.

30stm might not want people to know they are Christian because they don't want to lose listeners. The bottom line is that there is no way to really know unless they make a statement about it. Even if the lyrics seem to be a dead giveaway, I don't usually spread word about a band being Christian unless I've read or heard it from an interview.

-------------------------

Hi, I would just like to note on the Kings and Queens lyrics.

Maybe the children of a lesser God

Between Heaven and Hell

God is the Godhead three in one; Father, Spirit, Son. So God sent his son Jesus down to pay for our sins.

Into your eyes

Hopeless and taken

We stole our new lives

Through blood and pain

In defense of our dreams

Sounds an awful lot like Jesus's crucifixion. We gained new lives through the blood in pain Jesus went through.

And lesser God? It could mean the children of Jesus. He was one part; the son. and when he was on Earth he was merely a man between heaven and hell. He was tempted. IF JESUS CHOSE NOT TO FOLLOW GOD HE COULD HAVE GONE TO HELL WITH ALL OF MAN. But he was perfect and paid the price in defense of the people. Just my thought :) I also follow Jared on Twitter and he posted a picture of a beautiful church he was attending one Sunday. He said so himself, He's found the light but he's living in sin. We all are.

---------

I love 30STM but when they came out with their new album I to had many questions about some of their lyrics and symbolism. I started doing my own research and after still being left with questions. I asked myself is this worth supporting a band or music that may otherwise be going against what is most important to me, is it worth supporting something that goes against my faith. God is not a God of confusion according to 1 Cor. 14:33. My relationship with Jesus Christ is way more important than a group who really doesn't know what they believe or how to define it. That to me is a cult and I refuse to be a follower of that very thing. Revelations 3:16 says "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Maybe they can write a song about that:)

___________________________________________________

From what I've heard of them which is really just their "This is War" album (which musically I think is genius) the main theme is that we can be our own gods, which in Christianity was the problem from the start. Gen 3:5 "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." This was the lie from the beginning that was so tempting that humanity turned from God and were enticed with the notion of being god's themselves. Before the fall God provided everything through His power, but after Adam decided that God was holding out and his curiosity moved him to turn from God as his master, God removed His protection and finger from Adam and everything that God bestowed on him (the whole world) and allowed man to atempt thier selfish desires as a "gods" as the world took a new nature of corruption and chaos (without Gods power to keep things in balance). The desire to find godhood in yourself is no newage concept, infact it is the oldest, and not the life we were created to live. Selfish people are briefly satisfied, but won't get full satisfaction. We were not meant to serve ourselves, but God.

I wouldn't say so, I've got the impression they were anti-christians. JGred30:That's a good point of view but Jared Leto was actually engaged at one point to Cameron diaz but she broke the engagement, "A Beautiful Lie" is mainly about global warming problems but also refers to Jared's inspiration to write the song itself due to his and diaz's breakup, saying how their being together was all "A Beautiful Lie".Though for the song "savior", it's not about Christ, or drugs. And at the end the lyrics were as follows,

"Save me, save me, save me

I don't care"

So in the end even if leto did let her save him, he wouldn't care for Diaz either way.

As a fan of 30STM I had to do research to find out the truth behind some of these songs because at first I thought the same thing as the poster of the answer above. They aren't really christian but they do have religious views towards the lord. Most screamo bands such as Underoath and the Devil wears Prada may sound in a way Satanic, but they're really Christian, not everyone is able to understand certain music such as hardcore or screamo and therefor just casts those genres into the "antichristian department". Anyway I hope this helps everyone:)

Guys if you would just take the time to look things up you would have found on there website that they changed fom who they used to be and are looking to better thamselves they threw out their old recordings and they said that all their other ones are going to be made in the terms of faith and better morals of life and God. So yes they may have been at one time not christian but i think they are looking that way or at least to better themselves.

Yes, they are Christian. :) It is proven by Jared Leto's lyrics and in a interview he showed the camera man his holy bread. And the others are obviosly too because Shannon is his brother and i don't think Tomo would be in the band if he didn't believe in God or for example for the lyrics in the song Buddha For Mary he is singing about all the bad things that happen to "Mary" because she chooses to be Buddhist although that's an extreme and God wouldn't necessarily punish you in life but in the after lif he would by condemning you to hell

in the song "from yesterday", Jared leto says "sh!t", and much speculation goes out that he's gay.. that doesn't mean he's not christian, (i honestly have no idea) but i don't believe they are.

I don't think they intended to be anything religious, religious symbols just appear when we really release our souls. There are so many religions, all revolving around what's in your heart, that almost any rock band will run in to them at some point (they tend to pour out their feelings more). They can also be the hardest to find the meaning of, because we don't know what's really in their heart. A metaphor could mean anything.
