It is rule of thumb to pay each member at least $100 plus travel expenses. This is a good place to start negotiating. If you can trade other amenities that is also good. For example, dinner and a few beers.

The simple answer is that it cost as much as you can arrange the following items: 1) a venue at which to hold the festival; 2) how much you have to pay for the production equipment which will be the staging and sound; and 3) how much you have to pay your talent.

Each item can be researched by calling and simply saying you are researching putting together a music festival and are seeking quotes.

After you arrange the above you have to do the hardest thing in the process which is sell tickets!

I once did a music festival and I learned a lot. You can do it as big as you want. i would suggest two things, get as big a talent as you can afford as the bigger the talent the more the draw and easier the ticket sales. And set your first festival months if not a year in advance! Time flies and you will need quite a bit more time than you imagine to put together all the details and sell tickets.

Either way, it can be fun. It will be hard but you can do it.

There are many variables like size of venue, number of bands playing, how good a seat you want & how popular performer is/are. For example Kiss played at the BB Pavillion which holds 65k people. A ticket was 15.00, but they would look like ants. Decent seats were 250.00 or better (ea) Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, & Blondie all played at venues that were 4-6k people & you could get good seats for 50.00 (ea)

Festivals like Ozzfest are a flat rate per day & you can buy 1 or all days for like 150.00 day (varies)
