A full-sized symphony orchestra will have 16 1st violins, 14 2nd violins, 12 violas, 10 cellos, 8 basses, 2 each of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and bassoon, perhaps with a piccolo, English horn, bass clarinet, and contrabassoon, plus 2 or 4 horns, 2-4 trumpets, 2-3 trombones, one tuba, one timpanist, as well as another 1-4 percussionists, and a conductor.

That's 60 strings, 8-12 woodwinds, 2-12 brass, and 1-5 percussion. With the conductor, that's 72-90 people. Exact numbers vary by piece, as not every piece uses every instrument. Some use less, and some use even more in addition to what's listed.

This depends on the orchestra. Some professional orchestras can have up to 100 people. Not all those people may perform in every piece or every concert. Some have as few as 70.
