Of course, there is the trilogy produced and directed by Peter Jackson, to state the obvious. I've also seen an animated version, by a producer whose name I have forgotten. I'm sure there are a few other I'm missing, too.

There are three Lord of the Rings films. The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003), all directed and produced by Peter Jackson and the New Line Cinema. Peter Jackson is also making three films out of The Hobbit book, the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. They are called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).

Also there are some animated films made back in the 70's and 80's. There are 3 in total. The Hobbit (1977) by Rankin and Bass, The Lord of the Rings (1978) by Ralph Bakshi, and The Return of the King (1980) by Rankin and Bass. These films are not related to the Peter Jackson films, or each other.

There were two or three abortive versions of just The Fellowship of the Ring made. The other books were not filmed then as these movies did so poorly.
