The end was a trick. Pauls on the cell phone being assured that Dan is moments away from getting him out of the casket, but it turns out that Dan was at the wrong location and sand is pouring into the casket which fills up fully in the last seconds of the film. Paul is buried and dies.
yes, they lead you to believe they know his location, but as they dig him up(while on the phone with paul, main lead) they realize it was not the right location. you will spend the last 35 seconds of the film realizing the lead will die, right after he promised his wife he would return home.
I saw the ending and I was so mad I just wanted to punch a wall! The ending is that when he is calling the British guy he says " We found your coffin", and he is just like yay! I think I'll tell my wife! So he calls his wife and he told her he is gonna make it. Yay! Everything is happy now happy ending yay! NO! they just had to screw it up and say they accedentilly dug up Mark White (another person that was buried alive) and make it a sad ending!
